Chapter 4: Sustainable Mobility and Transportation
Transport: The Development Plan should specifically adopt a sustainable transport hierarchy.This hierarchy should specify a preference as follows, from most preferable to least preferable: walking/pedestrians, cycling, public transport, all other private transport. This should include the allocation of car parking spaces and transport routes (with footpaths of sufficient width throughout the city) to allow easy access into and out of the city from its residential suburbs.
- Pedestrianisation of the city centre should be a key priority.
- Pedestrian access from the city to Barna Woods and Silver Strand should also be a priority (including provision of adequate footpaths at bus drop-off and collection points, and appropriate crossings accessible by footpaths on both sides).
