Draft Galway City Development Plan 2023-2029

Galway City Council has prepared a Draft Galway City Development Plan for the period 2023-2029. 

The Draft Plan public consultation phase has commenced and will run from Friday 28th January 2022 to Wednesday 13th April 2022 (inclusive).  

What is the Draft Galway City Development Plan 2023-2029? 

The Draft Galway City Development Plan 2023-2029 sets out Galway City Council’s policies and objectives to guide the sustainable development of the City over the lifetime of the Plan to 2029. It provides an integrated, coherent spatial framework which has been prepared following extensive consultation with members of the public, statutory bodies and relevant stakeholders. 

The Draft Galway City Development Plan consists of the following:

Planning staff will be available to provide information and discuss any issues relating to the Draft Galway City Development Plan.

As part of the public consultation, the Development Plan Team are also available to discuss any aspect of the Draft Plan. They can be contacted by email - devplan@galwaycity.ie or by Phone- 091 536599. 

Drop-in Clinics

Weekly face to face clinics will be held at Galway City Council Planning Office each Tuesday morning until April 13th where members of the public can avail of a meeting with a member of the Development Plan Team to discuss any aspect of the Draft Development Plan. Advance booking of appointments is required and can be made either at consult.galwaycity.ie or by telephone at 091 536599.

The Draft Galway City Development Plan and associated documents are available to view here on consult.galwaycity.ie 

A hard copy of all documents and maps are available to view by appointment at the Planning Department,  Galway City Council, College Road, Galway, H91 X4K8. Please phone 091 536599 for an appointment. They are also available to view at Galway City Libraries during opening hours. A hard copy is also available to purchase from the Planning Department. Please email devplan@galwaycity.ie

Please make your submission/observation in one form only i.e. online, by email or hard copy by post. Submissions/observations should have a title of Draft City Development Plan and should state your name, address and where relevant, the body or organisation represented.  

The closing date for receipt of submissions /observations is Wednesday 13th April 2022.  

What happens next? 

All written submissions will be considered. They will be reviewed and recommendations will be made in response to them. This will be presented to the Elected Members of Galway City Council in the form of a Chief Executive’s report. Your views will be published here on our planning portal.  The Chief Executive’s report will also be made available on the portal and the Council's website. 

Data protection  

Please note that all valid submissions/observations received by the Council will be published on the Galway City Council website and will form part of the Chief Executive’s Report on submissions/observations received.
